“Asian limited partners are increasingly looking outside of Asia for new investments,” said Jeff Eaton, a partner at placement agent Eaton Partners. “As they get more sophisticated, they are broadening their approach.”
“The economy in many Latin American countries is slowing down after a period of explosive growth,” said Mr. Eaton. “We also saw significant amounts of capital raised for Latin Americafocused funds over the past several years and many investors are waiting to see if those commitments work out before investing more capital in the region.”
This trend also could be driven by a desire by limited partners to venture beyond plainvanilla strategies, said Mr. Eaton. “As limited partners’ alternatives portfolios become more mature, they look to complement existing investments with new strategies, and thus, new managers,” he said.
