Rowayton, Conn./Shanghai, PRC (November 27, 2007) – C.P. Eaton Partners, LLC, a leading global independent placement agent, today announced its expansion into Asia with the opening of its Shanghai office. The firm, which is headquartered in Rowayton, Connecticut with additional offices in La Jolla, CA and London, UK has been involved in Asia private equity fundraising for more than 12 years. C.P. Eaton Partners will expand its business across all sectors of the alternative investment landscape in Asia.
“The Asia Pacific region is a major strategic growth opportunity for the firm,” said Charles P. Eaton, Founder and Managing Member of C.P. Eaton Partners. “The Shanghai office will operate as a base for Asia Pacific business development. We will take advantage of being in the same geographic region as our existing and new Asian GPs and LPs to better serve their interests and meet the growing demand for placement services there. We will continuously search for leading GPs in the Private Equity, Hedge Fund and Real Estate sectors. In addition, we want to develop enduring relationships with the emerging regional LP base, including sovereign funds.”
The office will be headed by Edward Greene, who relocated from the Rowayton office to Shanghai. Recently focusing his efforts on the Asian market with the successful launch of four independent Asia specific funds, Mr. Greene spearheaded the firm’s expansion to Asia. He brings 40 years of broad institutional experience. Mr. Greene has prior marketing experience with institutional sales roles at Mitchell Hutchins and NatWest Securities, and senior management positions at Credit Lyonnais Securities USA, IMI Mabon and Charles Schwab Capital Markets.
In addition, Associate Jingjing Bai, will be focused on business development and relationship building. Ms. Bai recently joined the firm’s Shanghai office with a background in venture capital and private equity direct investments in China. Ms. Bai previously worked at MediBIC Alliance Co., the investment arm of MediBIC Group. She is a Chinese national and is trilingual in Chinese, English and Japanese.
“Opening an Asia office is a significant step for C.P. Eaton,” said Mr. Greene. “We recognize the shift in global economic forces and believe Asia to be a key driver of global economic growth. Through our experience of raising several prior Asian funds, we witnessed firsthand the growing demand for alternative investment in Asia and realize the importance of a local presence to provide western LPs direct exposure to the region. Additionally, by building close relationships with Asian LPs, we are able to further diversify the investor base of our western GPs.”
In May 2007, C.P. Eaton Partners held its final close of Asia Alternatives Capital Partners, L.P., an Asia-focused fund of funds, at $515 million in committed capital, which was 47% above the targeted close of $350 million. The fund targets Asia-based growth and buyout funds. In October 2006, the firm closed Capital Today China Growth Fund, L.P., a private equity fund with total capital commitments of $280 million, a milestone event as Capital Today is considered to be one of the first independently founded private equity firms solely focused on investing in the People’s Republic of China. C.P. Eaton has also worked with Partners Group, the Swiss-based global alternative asset manager, which held the final closing for its Asian private equity fund, Partners Group Asia-Pacific 2005 in April of last year.
The Shanghai office is located at 15F One Corporate Avenue, 222 Hu Bin Road, Lu Wan District, in the heart of Xintiandi. Edward Greene can be reached at +8621-6122-1231 [email protected]
